Re-learn to Socialize Post COVID

Do you also feel weird and clueless when someone goes in for a handshake and you haven’t felt human touch since a decade? Oh okay, not a decade but over 16 months.

It was already a task for my introverted self to meet people but now because of this pandemic it feels like I will have to apply for a crash course to learn to socialize. Do you feel me? I know you do. It’s okay to not have enough social energy to do things and take break.

 Let me share a few tips that helped me in these trying times. But before that, look at what social awkwardness might look like;

5 Signs of Social Awkwardness

  • Feeling more self-conscious than usual.
  • Wanting to meet people but feel super awkward when the actual meeting happens.
  • Making excuses to avoid meetups and choosing solitary activities.
  • Doing things or behaving unskillfully.
  • Becoming oversensitive or hyperactive.

Aww, hey, you are not alone! We’ve got your back. Almost everyone right now is feeling the same. Sometimes it’s okay to feel that way. You are an absolutely amazing human, not a robot right?

Try these amazing tips and yes! Don’t let that crown fall ;)

  1. Settle at your own pace- Be kind to yourself. There is no hard and fast rule to do this. Keep in mind that every single one of us is now socially awkward to a certain extent.
  2. Reconnect- Talk to your close friends and family. It might feel a little unhandy at first. Instead of chatting, make a phone call.
  3. Practice- Make a trip to the grocery store or the pharmacy for your regular needs (with proper COVID precautions). TIP- Go for a purrfect walk with your pet, I bet you will feel paw-sitive.
  4. Calm your Anxiety- Attend online yoga/Zumba classes. Workout at home. Practice mindfulness, engage yourself in an online course/webinar. Watch your favorite show.
  5. Your emotions are valid- As rates of mental illnesses are surging globally, it’s okay to feel a certain way but it’s not okay if you shut those emotions. Vent once in a while.

TIP- Reach out to a professional for therapy/any other psychological assistance or contact (@roohbrew – Instagram) in case you need a safe place to talk.

BONUS- If you have lost touch with a friend because of this stupid pandemic, then this is your sign to message/call that person to remind them how much you care about them.
